Reference Services

Reference Services provides reference and research assistance to students, faculty, and staff of SMU, Such as Subject Services、Sci-tech novelty retrieval、Information Services and Patent services.

1.Subject Services

In order to promote SMU’s subject construction and academic research, the library provides the subject services, which contain literature searching, databases using, reference certification and so on. SMU library also has a WeChat Official Accounts(Subject information guide) and providesthe subject competitive report for Specific users.

2.Sci-tech novelty retrieval

SUM library has a Sci-tech novelty retrieval workstation of the China Education Ministry (G12), and provides Sci-tech novelty retrieval services for many agencies and awards, such as China society of logistics, China port science and Technology Progress Award.The work station also have a branch in the Lingangmarine science parkfor providing Sci-tech novelty retrieval services.

3. Information Services

The information Services include shipping intelligence, logistics intelligence, Marine engineering intelligence. (1) Shipping intelligence contains a website (Shanghai international maritime information center, SIMIC), a magazine(Maritime Review), aMicroblog and aWeChat. (2)logistics intelligence: the library publishes Chinese logistics industry annual report(China Logistics Technology Development Report), updates the content of Logistics Literature database each quarter, becomes the productionand research base of theChina society of logistics in the first batch and support China institute of FTZ supply chain information service. (3)Marine engineering intelligence: the library focuses on the development of marine engineering industry, cooperates with government, enterprises in this industry, and become the science &technology intelligencecooperation units of Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry (Group) Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Lingangmarine science park.

4.Patent services

The patent services include patent searching, patent analysis, patent strategy deployment, patent value evaluation and so on. Many people in the patent team have passed the national patent agent qualification examination and have been selected in national patent talent pool in the first batch. In 2016, Shanghai Maritime University and Pudong intellectual proterty administrationjointly established a workstationin SMU library to provide intellectual proterty services for the universities and enterprises in Lingang area.
